Marina St theatre

Project Summary

Client:

Ku-ring-gai Council

Brief Project Description:

Ku-ring-gai council was forced to close their only live theatre venue in 2013 due to public safety concerns. The building from 1906 was in a state of disrepair and the council made the decision to upgrade and reopen the theatre with support from community groups and theatre lovers. A $9.8 million refurbishment is in the works to restore this important community asset into a thoroughly modern theatre complex.

DSP’s involvement?

The most valuable asset in any historical restoration project is a survey accurate record of the existing site and building to act as the single source of truth throughout the project lifecycle. DSP created a digital record of the current conditions and provided a survey plan of details and levels. This was followed by a Revit model from point cloud data as a digital twin of the theatre building.

How did DSP add value to the project? :

DSP was able to provide the single source of truth data in the form of a georeferenced point cloud from laser scan data of the exterior and interior of the theatre. This vital data set is always invaluable in allowing further design and documentation to achieve accurate and efficient results and avoid costly variations on site.

Technology & Capability

DSP are at the forefront of modern technology to capture field data, utilising the latest Leica and Trimble equipment to offer accurate and reliable results.

Such equipment includes high accuracy Total Stations with robotic operation, Laser Scanners, GPS with CORSNET capability, submillimetre digital Levels and data collection loggers for asset management/collection.

A professional suite of office software is employed for processing field data, from in-house developed least squares software and applications to commercial software packages such as Civilcad, 12d model, Bentley MX Road, Trimble Realworks, AutoCAD and Autodesk RECAP. DSP are able to offer a product to suit our clients’ needs.

With a fleet of vehicles compliant to the latest OH&S safety requirements, DSP can operate in all environments. All staff are trained and carry the relevant competencies including Rail Industry Worker, Rail Safety Worker, OH&S general induction for construction work, RMS Yellow Card and Substation Entry.
